Why?
Well for starters he's 35 years old. 2nd, he's 5'9. 3rd he's an injury-prone player. 4th, if they wanted him for experience on a young team, they would've signed him.
All of those are great reasons why he probably won't be able to earn a guaranteed contract. But maybe, just maybe, he doesn't look at it like you do. At 5-9, it was beyond a long shot for him to make the NBA at all, let alone start 362 games and play over 15,000 minutes. He has spent a lifetime working harder than most of the players that make the NBA, and that is saying something. My guess is that he enjoys the work and embraces the challenge. Becoming a starter was probably beyond his wildest dreams, but for most people, getting a shot to play spot minutes in a few NBA games would be a dream come true. Every minute he's on the court he's living the dream.
Beyond that, he has made under $35m in his career. Last season he earned an additional $477,630 by playing six games and a cumulative 19.4 minutes. I'd take that gig! It may not be the comeback IT hoped for, but I wouldn't label anything he has done as a failure. Let the man chase his dreams!
