Stephen Curry has agreed to sign a one-year, $62.6 million contract extension that will tie him to the Golden State Warriors through the 26-27 season. Curry had $115.3 million remaining over the next two seasons on his contract.

The Warriors have privately and publicly maintained the position that they will offer Curry the $62.6 million year onto his contract if he wants it. Curry will be playing in his age-38 season on that extension.

Curry is represented by Jeff Austin. 

Curry previously signed extensions with the Warriors in 2012 and 2021, as well as a free agent contract in 2017.

I wasn’t sure what the Warriors were doing last offseason/season, and I’m still not sure what the Warriors are doing this offseason. They’re screwed.

What you need to know is what the Ws were NOT doing is trading away all of their assets and young players with potential. That's how a team would really get screwed just like every team that LeBron played with and left them with nothing but years in the lottery.

True, but Lebron had his team in the Finals 9 of 10 seasons at one point

The flipside of retaining assets is the Warriors have virtually no shot at a Finals let alone title

One has been loyal to a single team throughout his long career. The other doesn’t know what the word loyalty means

Curry (and David Stern) built that into one of the top three most profitable franchises. Nothing like that has happened since MJ built the Bull into a successful and merch selling machine.

Bron hasn't done that anywhere nor has persuaded a team to sign his son.

I am ALL for Bron being able to make a positive impact for his son. But your analogy isn't apples to apples.

You're praising Stephen Curry for making a competently run franchise based in California profitable, and criticizing Lebron for not being able to do the same for one of the most dysfunctional franchises of all time that's based in Cleveland?

Steph or Lebron could show their age at any moment, but people will continue to pay to see a living legend play, even in a reduced capacity. If it was about loyalty Klay would still be a Warrior. Exactly, there was never loyalty, players got traded at half time while lacing their sneakers in the locker room only to go out and find out they are not on the team anymore. Lebron makes teams competitive, also carries a lot. Same goes for Curry, both of them are the main reason they made finals so many times and got so many chips from 2012 until 2022, they are the reason people tune in, they are the reason people watch, they make the NBA even today 90% of the Media is Lebron and Curry, Lebron and Curry, cuz thats what people watch, thats how their respective teams, the NBA and the media are making the most money, they are riding Lebron and Curry. There wont be another two guys that had so many trips to the finals in a decade. This rivalry created by Lebron and Curry won't get repeated. When that rivalry was happening the NBA was made out of 2 players, Lebron and Curry, nobody was talking about Durant being GOAT, nobody was talking about Harden changing the game, nobody was talking about Kawhi being the most dominant player ever, there was 2 players that were up there on top of everyone else, where in today's NBA there are like 10 players you can argue all day who is the best and all of them are folding every other season, so the media even today keeps talking about Curry and Lebron all day every day and cover them as much as possible, because even tho their championship runs are over they are still driving the NBA forward. It doesn't matter who is the good guy or the bad guy and who is the better player and who is the GOAT or whatever, the NBA will be boring for a long time after they are gone, they will leave a huge hole behind. I love them both and will miss them both.

I mean, he's only been in the finals once when in the west. It's fair to say he doesn't get in to the finals 10 times, if he didn't predominantly play in the east, evident by not being able to beat the Western conference team 6 out of 10 times. Since he has been in the league, the East has been substantially worse than the West and that's not up for debate. It's still very impressive, but it's not as impressive as many want to believe it is. A few of those years you knew there was no one stopping the Cavs and they cakewalked to the Finals, and matchups are a thing. A guy like prime Kawhi rather than PG3 on those Pacers teams might've been able to beat Bron's Cavs in my opinion, but the best team he had to play in East on second run with Cavs was that Pacers team who were solid, but not a championship level team. The east was better the year he left it than it ever was with him in it, the year the Raptors won with the Bucks and 6ers being better than that Pacers team.

The nbas top guys are under paid based on market value

Steph generates far more than 150mil a year for the NBA-

The bench guys don’t generate their salaries if they don’t play etc…

This gets back to having a union!

So they have to pay Steph

I realize you were agreeing with me, but you've gone too far. All I am saying is that Lebron and Curry pay the bills for their respective teams... in the same way that Beal paid the bills in WAS or Reggie paid the bills in IND. Every franchise, good or bad, has a player that is the primary draw for the fans. Some players are worth their contracts on the court but that isn't nearly as important as what they bring to the box office. The fans still love Curry and his contract reflects that. The fans soured a bit on Klay and he's in DAL now. On the court, it is much more likely that Klay is worth $17m when he's 36 than Steph will be worth $63m when he's 38... but at the box office fans will still be trying to see Steph play, just like fans were happy to pay to see Jordan with the Bulls.

That said: This was not nearly the greatest rivalry in NBA history. The NBA will trudge right along, with or without these guys. Lebron went to the Finals in so many consecutive years because his teams were stacked and the East was weak. Curry went to the Finals so often because his team was probably the best team in NBA history... But in the 12 years before Lebron's first Finals in MIA, LAL and SAS went to the Finals 11 times, and from the same conference. They had to go through each other to get there. THAT was a rivalry!

Also, I would imagine you have no idea how that franchise was run in 2009 when he got there, do a little homework, look into how "competently" run the Warriors have been. Lastly, name the other major professional team that turned a profit in Oakland... I'll wait.

Yes, Curry was the star on a team that went from medium media market and 18th most valuable NBA franchise to a global media interest team in San Fran and most valuable team in the league that is a money making machine with a future (winning or losing) outlook as good at the Lakers or NY.
