ABC/ESPN will replace JJ Redick in their lead broadcast booth with Grant Hill, Richard Jefferson, Tim Legler and Jay Bilas atop their list to join Mike Breen and Doris Burke, according to sources that spoke with The Athletic.

ESPN parted ways with Jeff Van Gundy and Mark Jackson after the 22-23 season and replaced them with Burke and Doc Rivers. After Rivers exited to become head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks in January, Redick was elevated. Redick left ESPN after the 23-24 season to become head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers.

Hill is currently under contract with TNT Sports where he is on the lead Final Four team while also broadcasting NBA games.

Bilas is considered a longshot for the job.

Jefferson was passed over in favor of Redick, but has a bright future with ESPN.

Legler has been with ESPN for years and has received more widespread praise in recent years.

Damn, that’s a sad broadcasting crew, all around.

Breen’s “bang” signature call is the lamest in all of sports.

Doris Burke is empty calories.

And all of those 4 candidates leaves a lot to be desired.

RJ has the highest basketball IQ out of them all, sure he’s a nerd and corny sometimes but he can laugh at himself, I’d rather him then any of the others

I like hearing Legler. Feel like I agree with 100% of his takes

Being a ‘nerd and corny’ is definitely not the issue with RJ. He’s cocky, most of his attempts to correct others are empty, superficial, or wrong, and he’s got a 12 year old’s sense of humor and sense of what’s cool and how people should act. Nerds are great, he’s just an annoying personality. I wouldn’t necessarily hate him as a friend but that’s exactly because he’d play the annoying immature guy role.
