Evan Fournier, Olympiacos Agree To Two-Year, $4M Deal

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Mon Sep 2, 2024 6:25 pm

Evan Fournier has agreed to sign a two-year, $4 million deal with Olympiacos. Fournier had been in the NBA since the 12-13 season when he joined the Denver Nuggets as the 20th overall pick in 2012 out of Poitiers Basket 86.

Fournier played in 32 games last season with the New York Knicks and Detroit Pistons, averaging 6.9 points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 18.1 minutes.

Hmmm. I'm surprised Fournier is leaving the league. A nba team can still use a veteran 3 & D guy like him

I assume he just wants to play at this point. Can't really blame him. In the NBA, at best, he's a end of the rotation guy. And on a good team, he's likely not even in the rotation. May as well enjoy playing the last few years of his career.

Fournier and defense have never been in the same sentence together...ever. Vet min is $3.3M for 1-yr in the NBA, but he chose a 2 year, $4M contract. So it seems to me that he's making the move to be a starter in Greece rather than bench warmer in the US. I assume he can get at least one NBA offer because the league reimburses teams to sign vets with over 3 years of NBA experience.

He never played above average defense and his shooting has been wildly inconsistent the last two seasons. He's not an NBA player anymore. Any team thinking about bringing him on would be better off taking a chance on a younger player at a lower minimum salary.
