Mac McClung has agreed to a partially guaranteed deal with the Orlando Magic where he will compete for a roster spot in camp. McClung has won the Slam Dunk Contest in each of the past two years.
McClung, who is represented by Greg Lawrence, appeared in 27 G League games with the Osceola Magic last season. McClung averaged 25.6 points, 4.7 rebounds and 6.7 assists in 35.4 minutes as he also won G League Most Valuable Player.
The Magic have a fairly crowded backcourt despite not re-signing Markelle Fultz.

I can't believe this guy cannot get a real shot in the NBA. For his career in the G League he's averaged 22 points, 6 assists, 4.5 boards and 1.2 steals in 32 minutes a game on 51/42/85 shooting.

But this is a fundamental misunderstanding of how the G League works. It's for teams to develop their prospects and he isn't anyone's prospect.
Guys have led the G in scoring and never played another game in the NBA. Guys have won MVP in the G and never had any sort of NBA career.

guys have averaged 12 in the g league and gotten fully guaranteed deals as well, you make a great point. production isnt really what youre looking for when you look for role players. orlando is looking for guys who can hit 3s off the dribble and penetrate from the 3 line and get all the way to the basket. This signing took place becuase they are the rare team that does NOT need a ton of playmaking from the point guard position because of wagner and banchero. they need someone who can push the tempo while being efficent and not compromising their defense.

Meanwhile LeBron James’s son has it easy.

What about LeBron James’s son? His son has no business being in the league nor should he even receive a nba’s contract based on his current skillsets. This proves nba plays favoritism. NBA should be earned not promoting favoritism

The most important criteria for making the NBA is the ability to guard your own position. Most guys are in the G league because they can't guard at an NBA level. McClung's G-league stats don't really matter. He hasn't proven that he can guard at an NBA level and most of the people he dropped those numbers on have already shown that they can't guard at an NBA level.

Teams get to pick their players. It's literally all favoritism.

Who knows if he can guard at an NBA level or not, he's only played 65 minutes. I do know he's a career 42% 3-point shooter on 6 shots a game in the G League. I get what everyone is saying, but he seems like someone worth giving a shot to considering his shooting and athletic ability. But then I haven't actually scouted him so maybe there's some obvious flaw that I'm not privy to.

He's only played 65 NBA minutes. That doesn't mean he's only played 65 minutes against NBA talent. He has been affiliated with five different NBA teams, CHI, LAL, PHI, ORL and GOS. He's had three training camps with three different teams, playing in seven preseason games. He's participated in four summer leagues with two different teams, playing in 14 total games.
He has been well scouted.
