Rogers Communications has acquired Bell's stake in Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment. MLSE is the parent company of the Toronto Raptors and Raptors 905, Toronto Maple Leafs, Toronto FC and Toronto Argonauts. MLSE also owns and runs Scotiabank Centre, where the Raptors play their home games.

Previously, both Rogers and Bell owned 37.5% of MLSE. Under the deal terms, Rogers is acquiring Bell's 37.5% stake at a valuation of $3.48 billion in US dollars.

Larry Tannenbaum functions as the Raptors primary governor, as he owns a 20% stake in MLSE. Tannenbaum was recently re-elected as the chairman of the NBA Board of Governors.

Ted's discomfort with the media doesn't strike me as Harold Ballard like: Ballard never met a microphone he didn't like and would purposely take a financial hit to soothe his ego: he dismantled a playoff bound team with the trades of Lanny MacDonald and Pat Boutette after they dared to express support for coach Nielson.

Where Ballard famously quipped that there was no need to invest in the team or its facilities because the seats were always full, Rogers has thrown money at the Jays with ball park renovations and even pursued Otani in FA. At least with Rogers, there is backing to pump money in to grow the team, something neither Bell or Tannenbaum really had.

Toronto sports fans have lamented the corporate boardroom decision making. Now there is a single identifiable owner. There will be missteps no doubt but I expect more bold moves.

They were investing money in the Jays because people weren't going to games so they needed to make a splash. If Ohtani signed they would be guaranteed sell outs and ticket increases.

As for the park a lot of the changes in the park were made so they can increase the price of the ticket. They added more premium clubs and seats something the stadium was missing because it wasn't really a thing when it was built. They are also investing in the stadium as they don't want to front money to build a new stadium. We are the 7th oldest stadium in the league, where places like Oakland and KC are looking to replace their old stadiums we are renovating as it is the cheaper option. Other stadiums ahead of us on the list include places like Wrigley Field, Fenway Park and Dodger stadium all of which are basically landmarks of the city that people want to go and see even if a game isn't happening, I would not define Rogers Centre the same way

This is the same owner that wanted to get rid of Massai a year after winning the championship, it is the same owner that didn't want to fork over what to them is a measly 50M expansion fee for a WNBA team because they felt women's basketball wouldn't sell. This is the same owner that was in a legal battle with his own family and board of directors, for pulling some succession **** and making moves behind everyone's back including firing the CEO and replacing the board.

While a singular owner might be a good thing, This particular one might not be, in the end only time will tell.
