Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers have agreed to a three-year, $193 million extension. This is the largest and longest extension Embiid is allowed to sign. The deal will bring Embiid's contract to five years and just under $300 million in total, with a $69.1 million player option on the final season in 2028-29.
Embiid will decline his player option for the 2026-27 season. That will allow the All-NBA center to add three seasons to his deal.
Philadelphia signed Paul George to a four-year, $212 million contract this summer. The Sixers also re-signed Tyrese Maxey to a five-year, $204 million contract. With Embiid now extended, all three of the 76ers stars are under contract through at least the 2027-28 season.

Between him and PG, that's going to be a very expensive IL.

Wow. Two oft-injured playoff chokers and Maxey will take up ALL of their cap space for the next 4 years. Then in 5 years Embiid alone will have a 69.1mil option! This won't end well.

Good for him. I'm not a fan of his but I am a fan of players being paid by owners.

It's the way the NBA is built.
At this point as a franchise you don't have another option.
Homegrown talent get's payed more so they stay, but at they same time they kill your payroll and ability to build around them, that's an issue with the New CBA.

The Knicks don't have those problems...yet

The Knicks helped to invent these problems. There was a one-time use, league exception for paying too much to a broke player called the Allan Houston rule.

The knicks overpaid og and had to let a good player walk to okc.. The knicks do have these problems but have built more depth and got Brunson on a good contract and bridges however will they have to overpay randle?

Not true. The NBA had the amnesty clause. Stupid people called it the Allan Houston rule. It was used on Jerome Williams though.

NYK weren't matching that offer and it has nothing to do with OG. OKC had the luxury of overpaying Hartenstein for two reasons: 1) They are loaded with young talent on rookie deals. 2) They have a wealth of picks at their disposal. If it turns out he is the role player his previous 5 coaches thought he was, they can package him with a pick and drop him at the airport. They have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

This never happened. The Knicks offered Shart the max they could offer because they didn't have full bird rights. OKC had money to burn and basically doubled our offer. OG has nothing to do with it. Randle will get fair market value. The Knicks FO has EVERYONE on great contracts. They do NOT have cap problems like many teams do,

That's really not true. One had nothing to do with the other. What the Knicks mistake (in hindsight) was is giving Hartenstein a 2 year contract rather than a 3 year contract when they originally signed him.

Was it a mistake? Shart seems like he was betting on himself and it paid off. If we offered him a third year option, would that have given us his full bird rights even if he turned it down to test FA? If so, then that's a mistake.
