Derrick Rose gave up his entire 24-25 salary of $3.36 million with the Memphis Grizzlies after he requested he be waived ahead of the start of the preseason, reports ESPN's Tim MacMahon.
Rose, who is represented by B.J. Armstrong, signed a two-year, $6.5 million deal with the Grizzlies during the 2023 offseason.
Rose appeared in just 24 games last season with the Grizzlies, averaging 8.0 points, 1.9 rebounds and 3.3 assists in 16.6 minutes.

Why? He going overseas to make more or something? I mean, IIRC BJ Armstrong has f***** up some big money deals before, not sure I'd be trusting him.

Which other deals? I can’t remember who he represents.
But yeah, this is weird.

This is puzzling. Doesn't his endorsement deals have some sort of NBA or no money clause?

There has to be a personal reason and in the end it’s none of our business.

Dumb move because the Grizzlies likely would’ve bought him out for his full contract in the middle of the season anyway.

If he signs a minimum contract with anyone he basically makes all of the money back...

Donatas Motiejunas rejected a 37 million dollar contract from the Rockets on BJ Armstrong's advice.
"Motiejunas' agent, B.J. Armstrong, told ESPN: "We know our rights. We don't have a problem with the Rockets at all. We understand the rules fully.""
He ultimately went on to earn ~$637K total in the rest of his NBA career and play exactly 40 more games for the Pelicans and Spurs over the next 3 seasons.
This was an RFA match by Houston of a Nets offer sheet... the CBA allowed Houston to "not match" another 6M (because it was incentives), so Armstrong told him not to report. The Rockets released him on December 15th, he played 37 games for New Orleans on a minimum ($576K) and then went unsigned until 2019 when he played 3 more games with the Spurs and earned <$60K (prorated)

This is vet minimum deal (just $3.3m) and I believe Rose is still getting paid $6.5m annually by Adidas. My guess is that he just wants to play BB and possibly get that ring. Not much chance of either of those things happening in MEM. They are not contenders and he would be way at the end of the bench behind Ja, Smart, Bane, Pippin Jr, etc. If someone picks him up, he breaks even; if nobody picks him up, that still might be preferable to sitting on the bench in MEM.
And of course, maybe there be some tampering involved. He may already have a landing spot.

Oh yeah! I forgot about D-Mo. As others have mentioned, it doesn’t look like he’s losing that much, if anything. I wonder if the Bucks would want him as a backup combo guard next to Delon Wright? Two hour drive from Chicago, so he could spend time back home on off days.
