Rob Pelinka: Lakers Could Trade First-Round Picks To Secure Sustained Excellence

Los Angeles Lakers GM Rob Pelinka recently met with the media ahead of training camp. When the topic of roster building came up, Pelinka said he's open to trading first-round picks if the right deal came along.
"I think the philosophy that (Lakers coach) JJ (Redick) and I are aligned on is we want to build sustainable Lakers excellence," Pelinka said. "And I think, when we talk about moves, you can make a move that backfires. I think every GM has made a trade where he says, 'Maybe that one wasn't ideal.' But every lens that we look through has to lead to sustainable Lakers excellence."
Pelinka and Redick also said that they are working out a plan for getting LeBron James and his son Bronny on the court together. It's expected that early in the season the James duo will become the first father-son combo to play together in an NBA game.

The Vegas expansion can't come soon enough. Let LBJ be an "owner" so he finally GTFO.

Bruce Brown? You're welcome, we'll take your 1st rounder.

i think a first is unrealistic given his health. I would gladly take 2 2nds though.

You mean Bruce Brow, the $23 million dollar man, who averaged under 10/4/3 last season? He's a reserve getting paid like a starter.
Brown would be a downgrade from Dlo, Rui or Reaves, so the only way this makes sense is if TOR is willing to take back Vincent and Vanderbilt. The 1st isn't for Brown, it's for trading two mistakes for one.

Rob talking about trading for "sustained Lakers excellence" and also planning the publicity stunt of father and son on the court tells you everything you need to know really.

Is this a real NBA franchise or a reality TV show?

They fail to see the problem with the value proposition. If you achieve sustained excellence, your 1sts are trash and not worth trading for. If you are going to take on 1sts for top end value, there at least needs to be a chance at upside. Actively helping the lakers long-term ruins that upside. I could understand helping them short term, that way both teams get something
