The Philadelphia 76ers have ruled out Joel Embiid for the remainder of the preseason as part of his left knee management.
The Sixers say Embiid is "progressing well and will continue to take part in an individual treatment plan designed to best support his health and wellness for the 2024-25 season."
Embiid tore the meniscus in his left knee last season.

Haven't you guys have been asking him to take care of his body for like 5 years now? Also 'the rest of the preseason' is like 5 days.

Is anyone surprised?
This was the plan, even publicly:
https://www.si.com/nba/focused-joel-embiid-76ers-urgency-win-championship-aging-rosterAfter last season ended, Embiid shot Morey a text. The gist of the message: Forget the regular season. I need to be healthy for the playoffs. Recognition isn’t important to Embiid this season. “No All-Star, no All-NBA,” Embiid said. “None of that.” He dropped between 25 and 30 pounds this summer, he says. He plans to drop more. The Sixers wouldn’t commit to a specific schedule, but it’s likely back-to-backs will be limited, as will three games in four nights.
“Whatever it takes to make sure that I get to that point and I’m ready to go,” Embiid said. “Basically every single year of my career, I’ve been hurting in the playoffs. So I think that’s the goal. And it is all about doing whatever it takes to get [to the playoffs healthy].”
When he’s on the floor, Embiid envisions a lighter workload.
