The Los Angeles Lakers are declining the third-year option on Jalen Hood-Schifino worth $4 million for the 25-26 season. Hood-Schfino was the 17th overall pick in the 2023 NBA draft out of Indiana.
Hood-Schifino will be an unrestricted free agent during the 2025 offseason. Hood-Schifino is represented by Austin Brown.
In 21 games last season with the Lakers, Hood-Schifino averaged 1.6 points and 0.6 rebounds in 5.2 minutes. Hood-Schifino underwent back surgery last March.

Could have had Cam or Jaime, but we have nothing but a wasted roster space instead. GG Rob.

Sounds like a JJ decision. A 4 mil option isn't anything salary wise.

It's a roster spot occupied by someone that isn't an NBA player. He isn't going to make it. They just turned him into a tradeable expiring contract.

Sure but:
1. He was injured last year
2. Lakers had Ham as a coach last year (obviously no development)
3. They just drafted him last year; seems premature. I haven't seen too many teams give up on a young player this quick into their career
But hey, clearly there is something the organization doesn't see with him during practices.

He can't shoot and he can't defend his position. Before he was hurt last season he shot 22% from the floor, 13% from 3pt. He wasn't much better in summer league or the preseason. He just isn't NBA good. LAL needs trade assets far more than they need a reclamation project.

This comment seems ripe for rebuttal given this is the Lakers

If it's ripe, pick it. I understand this is a Bronny dig, but all NBA comments from here on out have an implied (*) attached to them.
That said, if JHS is on an NBA roster on his 25th B-day, I will buy you a pizza.*
