The NBA is set to investigate an incident involving Joel Embiid shoving Marcus Hayes of the Philadelphia Inquirer, the league announced on Saturday night. 

"We are aware of reports of an incident in the Sixers locker room this evening and are commencing an investigation," said an NBA spokesperson in a statement.

Embiid took issue with a column in which Hayes referenced Embiid's son and late brother.

"The next time you bring up my dead brother and my son again, you are going to see what I'm going to do to you and I'm going to have to ... live with the consequences," said Embiid to Hayes after players entered the locker room following the Sixers' loss to the Grizzlies.

Hayes then reportedly offered an apology to Embiid, which Embiid rejected.

Embiid would go on to state that he doesn't care what reporters think, to which Hayes responded "but you do."

The comment appeared to set off Embiid, who then raised his voice and pushed Hayes on the shoulder.

Team officials got in between the two, with team security asking reporters not to report on the incident.

"They can do whatever they want. I don't give a s---," said Embiid.

Embiid clearly does despite his words to the contrary. Hayes not afraid to call him out on it either!

Not very often I agree with Embiid but this time for sure!

Embiid was involved in a solitary incident where his emotions got the best of him. This is more of a Draymond style outburst, and if Draymond had done this the penalty would be pretty severe. As Embiid's first offense, I expect that the punishment will be light.

Was the "multiple infractions of the same nature" related to assault and battery?

A "solitary incident" that's potentially criminal if the victim proceeds to press charges with potential civil litigation isn't worse than "multiple infractions" of legal activity?

1) No. That was my point. There is no correlation between this incident and Ja's.

2) No. Ja waiving a gun around like a toy will almost certainly lead to kids waiving guns around like toys. (it is pretty childish behavior.) That will lead to kids being shot... by cops, other kids, or themselves. If Embiid inspires a bunch of kids to unnecessarily shove reporters... I think I'm good with that.

3) I did. And I read about it a lot at the time, which is why I don't jump to "but Ja" or "but Draymond" every time an incident occurs. As I said in my original post, there is no correlation between this incident and Ja's. This is more of a Draymond type situation. As a first offense, I expect the punishment will be light.

The section of the article that I thought might bring you some clarity was: The NBA has broad power if it believes player conduct is detrimental to the league. "When we have a standard for conduct detrimental... based on what we see as the values of this league and what our expectations from our players are in terms of the image we're portraying to our fans... it's not a legal standard. Some companies require a suit and tie; the NBA asks that you don't waive guns around on social media. Seems fair.

The article didn't get into the fact that the nightclub incident was in Denver, which means Ja traveled on the team plane with the gun. Bringing firearms into team facilities or planes is explicitly forbidden. But once again... this story has nothing to do with Ja.
