NBA TV's Future Unclear Amid New Rights Deals, 42 Percent Decline In Household Over Past 10 Years

The future of NBA TV is unclear as the league unwinds its partnership with WBD. WBD has been operating it since 2008 by handling ad sales and all aspects of its production and talent hires out of their Atlanta studios. The NBA is not sure if or how it will continue beyond the current season.

NBA TV was in 60 millions homes just 10 years ago, but that number has dropped to 35 million (42 percent decline) and continues to be on the declines as more people cut the cord.

NBA TV currently can pick up any local feed on a night when there isn't a nationally televised game on ABC, ESPN or TNT. They also air studio shows and old games. Much of that surplus inventory will move to Amazon and NBC next season.

Yup. Unfortunately, profit maximization and efficiency are generally mutually exclusive goals.
