NBA Considering Four-Team Tournament Format For All-Star Game

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sat Nov 16, 2024 3:19 am

The NBA is in serious discussion to hold a tournament-style format for the 2025 All-Star Game. The proposed format will consist of three All-Star teams of eight players each and the winner of the Rising Stars game.

The four teams would face each other in matchups -- for instance, Team 1 versus Team 3 and Team 2 versus Team 4 -- and the winners move on to the final round of the tournament.

Stephen Curry is one of several All-Stars to offer input on this year's event, which will be held in San Francisco at Chase Center.

Last year's game was largely derided as the East defeated the West by a final score of 211-186 with both teams playing apathetic defense.

"We're looking at other formats," Silver said earlier this month. "I think there's no doubt that the players were disappointed as well in last year's All-Star Game. We all want to do a better job providing competition and entertainment for our fans."

Not something I would enjoy watching. They need to make it more interesting by giving the winning conference home court advantage in the Finals. Then the players would actually compete.

End the all star game before you do that. No way should the best record in the NBA have game 7 of the NBA finals on the road because a random allstar got hot for 1 game.

Like voter turnout, you can’t force players to care.

This won't make the players care, they view this weekend as a vacation.

There isn't an easy solution outside of large financial compensation.

I understand idea to actually make the game mean something. Pretty sure baseball tried this with their all star game. They removed that though. I think they should make it a fun three on three tournament but that might take too long possibly. So making four teams is fun. Winning team gets $10M. Maybe money will make it fun for everyone I dunno how but the threat of injury will always be the downfall of making the ASG fun to watch because the players just don’t try

It's the players fault, no gimmick is going to save it. They are all too scared of getting dunked on or shown up by someone else that they refuse to try. They care more about their "brand" than basketball.

Or just cancel the all-star game. Run you stupid little 'in season tournament' then instead.

Risk of injury is just too high a price for players to play competitive. The injury to an all star can derail the whole season.

The all star game serves little benefit when fans can tune into high lite dunks, shooting and blocks 24-7.

Something that would be interesting to watch would be a fan/vote of 4 player WNBA/NBA 3 on 3, and 2 player WNBA/NBA 3pt shooting pairings that alernated shots .
