Alex Caruso, Thunder Expected To Sign Extension

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sat Nov 16, 2024 4:00 am

Alex Caruso becomes eligible for a contract extension with the Oklahoma City Thunder worth up to approximately $80 million over four seasons on December 21st, which is six months after his trade from the Chicago Bulls. According to Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report, an extension between Caruso and the Thunder is considered to be the only meaningful transaction the team completes in the near future.

"I don't expect there to be much more in OKC for the time being right now aside from this impending Alex Caruso extension that the league is definitely still expecting and bracing for coming out of the Thunder," said Fischer.

Caruso is represented by Greg Lawrence and will be a free agent in 2025 if he and the Thunder do not agree to an extension. The Thunder acquired Caruso last June for Josh Giddey.

He is not worth his max. I’d offer him four years, $40 million with a team option for the fourth year.

And you would lose him outright with that approach.

OKC or any other team with a chance to sign him will confirm they disagree with you. He'll easily land 13-15 million yearly if not more.

OKC has to give him $20 million/yr he’s eligible for. Who else are they saving the $$ for anyway, no superstar player is coming to live in Oklahoma in free agency, respectfully.

For a bench player averaging 4pts, 2asts, 2rebs? lol let him walk then. No team will give him more than that.

I understand your concerns, but teams aren't paying this guy for his scoring production. He's one of the most disruptive defenders at his position in the game. Teams that have legit title aspirations need a guy like Caruso on their roster. It's just that simple. You don't have to agree with his worth. It's just the mere fact that his skill set is in demand.

Tell me what Caruso's existing contract correlates to now?

News flash, it's more money.

The initial point was only to offer him 10 million per as if it would somehow be sufficient. I claim he'll get a contract for a minimum of 13 million per, likely more. I expect he'll get something north of 15 million per.

I guess we'll see who's right. I could care less what anyone thinks of his stats.

Point is you said championship teams need a guy like him, so I asked which championship team had someone like him playing 20 mind a game with 4/2/2 stats, and that player is considered critical to the team?

I'm not the one here that brought up his stats.

I have only said and continue to say - regardless of what any of you or I think of his stats - he's still going to get paid by OKC or another team with title aspirations - and it will be a healthy amount higher than 10 million per.

OKC was willing to trade a player who was drafted in the top 10 of his class for Caruso. I'm pretty sure they know what he's expecting in his next contract and I doubt they willingly dumped Giddey for a 1-year rental.

If some of you are that concerned with his actual stats, I guess you can discuss that. I'm not interested because those details aren't going to change that he's going to get a new deal, apparently for much more than what some think he's worth.
