The NBA announced today that the Atlanta Hawks have been fined $100,000 for violating the league’s Player Participation Policy in connection with Trae Young missing the team’s Emirates NBA Cup game on Nov. 12 against the Boston Celtics at TD Garden.

Following an investigation, including review by an independent physician, the NBA determined that the Hawks held Young out of a game that he could have played in under the medical standard in the Policy.  The organization’s conduct violated the Policy, which is intended to promote participation in the NBA’s regular season.

this is the most idiotic fine ive ever seen. some random independent league appointed doctor somehow magically knows how Trae Young is feeling better than him and the team doctors? why is this the case for the league to make an example of? we're really gonna start pressuring these small market teams that the league barely lets hold on to the scraps they get to run their guys into the ground till their ligaments start popping

embarrassing look for the league. players union needs to get this trash out of the next CBA priority #1

hawks won the game btw lol

I'm all on board for fining teams for this nonsense, but this seems like an odd first one to make an example of.

The NBA can’t win. The fans complained about load management, so they created this rule. Now fans are upset because they asking players to play, lol.

While I understand the drawbacks, the NBA just signed 78 billion in media deals and their stars are getting payed well. The NBA can’t have them sitting on the bench unnecessarily.

this rule is absurd. it should be up to the teams and the teams only to decide, which player to play. how does the nba decide, if a player is a "superstar"? their stats? their salary? name recognition? their social media followers? why have coaches, if the nba tells you who to play? in the end, it's a sport, not a videogame or circus.
