Sixers Sought Extra Medical Opinions On Joel Embiid Before Three-Year, $192M Extension

The Philadelphia 76ers and Joel Embiid sought out approximately six medical opinions before they signed a three-year, $192 million extension in September, sources tell ESPN's Ramona Shelburne. All of those consulted believed Embiid's knee could be managed by a combination of strategic rest and procedures to promote healing.
Embiid and the Sixers hoped his knee would be healthy enough to play to start the season. They anticipated him needing more time to work his way into shape after the Olympics, but it became clear over time his knee wasn't right.
Embiid has not played with the same force since his return and is averaging just 19.8 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists in 31.4 minutes over his first four games. Embiid averaged more than one point per minute last season. Embiid's PER has dropped from 33.4 last season to 16.4 this season.

as a non-sixers fan, it makes me happy that this franchise hitched their wagon to this guy. now you'll be lucky if he can play 25 games hahaha. and because you got no cap room left, the rest of the team are stiffs that can't carry the team

I believe this about as much as they couldn't have traded Ben Simmons for Tyrese Haliburton.

I am not sure where your sarcasm lies on this... but there is zero chance that SAC would have traded Simmons for Hali. Simmons was broken long before the trade and all 30 GM's knew it. Simmons was traded two days after Hali, so it is possible that they were in talks and hoping it would get done, but it doesn't sound realistic. I don't remember how many tradeable picks PHI had at that time but it would have taken all of them and then some.

Embiid can be annoying, but players going down or having careers derailed due to injury is actually one of the things I dislike the most.

Maxey is currently playing far better than haliburton anyway so not sure it would of helped... Simmons is disappointing but injury also completely derailed him back surgeries are no joke he isn't the defender he was anymore or explosive athelete and obviously he could never shoot so with those things gone all he has is passing ability and height it's nowhere near enough to be a viable NBA player.. Embiid situation sucks too I am sure they got medical opinions but of course you were going to risk a 3 year extension on a guy that has shown to be as good as he is.. It looks like it probably won't work out but sometimes that's how it goes.. Kawhi has not worked out for the clippers and everyone knew his injury history but most teams wanted to sign him.. Jamal murray has some pretty long injury stints he just got a max..

You sound like a pitiful person.
I say that as a non-sixers fan.
Focus on your own squad. Smh

You didn't think this comment through, did you?
Based on what you said I suppose you've never been to a doctor?
(granted, mistakes are sometimes made...)

I was seriously asking you a question. I was not sure if you were being sarcastic.

Jamal and Kawhi aren't afraid to shoot. Jamal fits in with Jokic so there really isn't much need to over think that. Kawhi hasn't been right physically for a long time. He was healthy at just the right time in TOR, but each time LAC gave him a new contract it was a mistake.
But I'm not talking about physically broken. He has been afraid to shoot since entering the league, and shown no willingness to work on that aspect of his game. In his last season in PHI 20/21 he took 14% of his shots from outside 8 feet. in 19/20 it was 10%. In 18/19 it was 17% on far more attempts. He had been regressing for a long time when Doc finally called him out in the media. People talked about him needing a 3pt, but what he really needed was any kind of offensive game other than a dunk. (A 12-15 foot bank shot from the elbow perhaps?) He was just another player that came into a tanking organization with no work ethic and no direction.
