Lonzo Ball Believes Big Baller Brand Shoes Could Have Led To First Meniscus Tear In 2018

Lonzo Ball believes the Big Baller Brand shoes he wore as a rookie could have contributed to the first meniscus injury he suffered in July 2018. Ball said the shoes were like "kickball shoes."

"I think it's a possibility for sure, to be honest with you," Ball said. "I wasn't really getting hurt like that until I started wearing them."

Ball chose the surgery with the quickest recovery time in order to try to help the Los Angeles Lakers make a playoff run. By the time he was cleared after 15 games missed, the Lakers were eight games back of eighth place.

"I was an Adidas kid since high school, so I was thinking that was going to be the route," Ball said. "But what was told to me, I guess, wasn't what really happened. I was told that nobody wanted to partner with me, so my dad was like, 'Just rock the brand.' And I was like, 'All right.'"

Ball said he wonders whether there were already cartilage issues deep within his knee before he even reached the NBA. Ball spent years playing on concrete and running springs in Chino Hills State Park.

"My uncle used to always tell me, 'Y'all play too much outside,' because we were playing super hard in the backyard. That's on concrete," Ball said. "That was at least 15 years. So I mean, all that, over time, it can't be good for your knees."

I would be so disappointed in my son if he said this. I believe Lavar wanted his sons to be great and he did whatever he could to make that happen. Parents aren't perfect and for this guy to look back and nitpick what could have happened is weak. Most kids don't have the luxury to have a hoop in their backyard or get incredible promotion from their parents and have their own shoe.

I would be so disappointed in my dad if this had happened to me. Lonzo absolutely could've signed a deal with an established shoe company instead of being gaslighted his dad into wearing crappy Big Baller Brand shoes. Not saying he would get a signature shoe but he easily warranted a regular shoe deal like every other lottery pick.

Most kids aren’t scammed by their parents. Leeched on by their parents to be famous. Then had their parents use their draft selection and fame to create a basketball league to scam most college kids out of money in your name or sell shoes in your name and scam people. It goes both ways

Worked for Tiger Woods.. but let's be real this kind of injury happens and his brother played on the same concrete and soon do tend of ballers.. lonzo is reaching for straws here.. I have no doubt the shoe sucked I do have doubts it contributed to this specific injury.. plenty of players in the NBA have has their career cut short by injury.
