Brandon Ingram's previous agents were seeking a contract worth $50 million per season with the New Orleans Pelicans as part of his extension. The annual average is near his maximum and the two sides were unable to get a deal done.

Ingram recently left Jeff Schwartz and signed with Shy Saee, Mike George and CEO Rich Paul of Klutch Sports as his representation.

The Pelicans have luxury tax concerns and are already at $157 million without accounting for Ingram's contract next season.

While the Pelicans highly value Ingram and would like to keep him, they are unlikely to reach Ingram's current salary annually on an extension, making the trade route much more likely than a long-term deal, sources tell ESPN.

The Pels seems like a team that's going nowhere fast. Ingram and company seem like they are always hurt. There's no denying his talent, but is he worth an extension considering the current state of the team?

I say make wholesale changes from the top down.

This is a case where the problem isn’t the coach. It’s the terrible Head of Ops David Griffin. He rode LeBron’s coattails. They have one of the highest payrolls in the league for one of the worst records.

The trade for Dejounte Murray certainly looks like a disaster.

Griffin had 2 years already to evaluate his own high lotto pick (Daniels) in-house every day -- and had him under team control for 2 more years (and then only RFA).

Now Daniels is a near lock for All-Defense this season with Atlanta... but Griff also gave up a solid defensive big (Nance) and two FRPs.

Murray will be paid 30M for each the next 3 or 4 years (his choice), missed the 1st month with injury but has not reclaimed his All-Defense status from season 2 in many years despite very good health in both San Antonio and Atlanta.

This season is blown of course and IDK if as-constructed they can ever be a playoff team again ... but at the very least Zion, Herb, and Ingram would have to be healthy for something close to 65+ games. and while Jones is back the other two have no timetable.

Quite the tire fire. They have to be discussing when/how to best blow it up at this point.

$50 million per season is a very high number. 50M/82 games per year is 609,756 per game. Since BI averages 60 games per year, that puts him right at $36.6M per season PLAYED, and even that seems too high for him, given what the market is dictating. RJ Barrett is having a career season in Toronto and has two more years at 28M and 30M left.

I assumed more players would be sitting like Ingram (he's averaged 58 gp over the past 7 seasons)

But I was wrong (last year at least)

181 players averaged >25 mpg

Almost 73% of those played in 60 or more games

The biggest of these [arbitrary] groupings played in the most ( >75) games:

Agreed, but even with all that, I think the second apron is the only reason why BI isn’t a Dub already. Iguodala was an ironman before he got to Golden State, but his endurance was gone once they started rolling and the sixth man role was the perfect position for him. Playing Ingram behind Kuminga is just the kind of situation that would hopefully keep Brandon upright and give the team more firepower than everyone in the West.
