The Golden State Warriors continue to monitor the trade market for a star and realize that the future of Jonathan Kuminga is tied to those efforts. The Warriors and Kuminga were unable to agree to terms on an extension before the start of the season, but he remains part of their plans should they be unable to find a workable trade for a win-now star.
"One of the most important players in the league to watch right now, believe it or not, is Jonathan Kuminga," said Brian Windhorst on Get Up. "The reason I say that is the Warriors have been sniffing around making a star player transaction for almost a year now. Right now, they're basically making the final analysis on Jonathan Kuminga. Are they going to keep him or are they going to move him?
"Over the last two weeks he's moved into the starting lineup, he's averaged 21 points and five rebounds at almost 50 percent shooting in those games. This could also be termed as a showcase depending."

It absolutely lies on the side of getting the best team possible now while Steph is still Steph. Kuminga could be great for the future, but if they can get a compatible star, they should. The future will never be better than Steph.

What the FO is deciding is if the team with Kuminga is right now better than the team with any star player they can get. Considering the stars that are available, I don't think the team gets better by trading him.

Another issue is whether Kuminga is going to be worth his upcoming contract (demands).

It's time for the Warriors to see what they've got in Jonathon Kuminga. He's got some big shoes to fill!

Also the Warriors have to decide to what extent it's worth hamstringing their cap with a huge Kuminga contract.

You must be pretty depressed then, if you're a Warriors fan.
If you're not a Warriors fan, you're just a hater who doesn't know what they're talking about.

The new CBA has created an environment where I doubt any team is going to offer him a massive contract far beyond what he's proven he's worth this season. There's too little upside to offering huge money based on potential when the luxury tax ramifications are so onerous. Warriors are in a strong position to keep him at a fair deal. I hope a max deal is what's considered fair for obvious reasons.
