Warriors On Track To Acquire Dennis Schroder From Nets

The Golden State Warriors are on track to acquire Dennis Schroder from the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for De'Anthony Melton.

The Warriors have just enough room under their first-apron hard cap to fit Schroder's $13 million salary in place of Melton's $12.8 million salary. Melton is out for the season following knee surgery, so the Warriors will have to send some form of additional compensation to the Nets. Both Schroder and Melton are on expiring contracts, so there is no impact salary-wise beyond this season for either team.

Schroder has averaged 18.4 points, 6.6 assists and 1.1 steals for Brooklyn this season. The veteran guard is shooting 45.2% from the field, including 38.7% on 6.5 three-point attempts per game.

They won't say the word tank in Brooklyn but they'll dump a thriving player.

if they're not going to extend him or suspect he is going elswhere as a FA, they might as well get somethin for hm no?

3 SRP's is an amazing get for Schroeder's expiring contract. I get why the Dubs are doing it, Dennis has become a very effective and def above average player and they are all in with Curry etc. but make no mistake, 3 SRP's is a premium price for an expiring Schroder

I feel like they could have squeezed a 1st round pick from a contender that desperately needs a PG a month from now.

How we feel is irrelevant. These front offices are seeking every opportunity out there and if Brooklyn thought they could get a FRP they would have waited for that deal.

They wouldn't get a frp for DS on an expiring and they want to tank this is why they got there pick back and they aren't tanking well enough.. DS paired with dfs might net a frp though.. I mean if Lakers offered a package of gabe a dlo for ds and dfs with a first rounder could see this as worth it.. but salary is also important because nets are limited in moves due to the cap.

Love this trade. Schoroder has always been a W killer for quite some time, always played well against them. Dude can get to the bucket at will and there'd be plenty of space for him with Curry and Buddy shooting outside. His ability to generate offense and assist is exactly what the Ws needed. Basically flipping Melton's defense and injury status for offense.

The Nets are about to make a much larger deal. Relax. It will take them about 2-3 seasons to complete this phase. This was the first step now in that NEW PROCESS. CHILLAX.

If you are a team that desperately needs a starting PG than you probably aren't a contender. If DS is your starting PG than you probably aren't a contender. (Sorry GSW but Steph plays like a SG!)
