The Portland Trail Blazers are not eager to trade Robert Williams III, sources tell Jake Fischer. Williams is on Year 3 of a four-year, $48 million signed with the Boston Celtics during the 2021 offseason. Portland acquired Williams as part of the Jrue Holiday deal before the 23-24 season and won't become a free agent until 2026.

The Blazers like Williams' pick-and-roll partnership with their young guards. The Blazers have a crowded depth chart at center in Williams, Donovan Clingan, Deandre Ayton and Duop Reath.

Williams, who is represented by Kevin Bradbury and Bill Duffy, played in only six games last season due to a patellar dislocation.

Williams is averaging 9.4 points, 5.6 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.6 blocks in 18.5 minutes over eight games this season. Williams has a career-high PER of 26.0 and could be the most coveted center on the trade market. Williams has been productive throughout his career, but has struggled to stay healthy.

Just increasing the price. They know they don’t need that many centers…

I don't know they would be the team to hang onto someone they should trade tbh

That's a reasonable viewpoint for Portland - Williams is probably still available (for a strong offer) but if he can stay healthy then he and Clingan make a solid center rotation. They are definitely should be shopping Ayton first IMO...

"Could prefer" what does that even mean?
