Charles Barkley Fires Back At JJ Redick For Criticism Over How NBA Is Covered

In between games on TNT's Thursday night NBA coverage, Charles Barkley took aim at Los Angeles Lakers coach JJ Redick. Barkley was unhappy with Redick's recent comments about how poor coverage of the NBA by its partners has hurt the game. While neither Barkley nor TNT were called out directly by Redick, the veteran analyst used those comments to get off some thoughts about Redick and the Lakers.
"Y’all heard JJ Redick said something about me?" Barkley said. "JJ, you better calm down, cause when you come for the king, you better not miss … He said something about we’re the reason people ain’t watching this crappy product we got. Yeah, us, like we’re out there jacking up 100 threes a night … JJ, you come for the king, you best not miss, cause I can get you, brother."
Barkley then flipped to criticizing the Lakers.
"Remember, I got your Lakers games, you can’t hide them flaws they got," Barkley said. "You just a dead man walking — they got rid of Frank Vogel who did a good job, they got rid of Darvin Ham who did a good job. You came out there thinking you were gonna change things with that same ugly girl you went on a date with – the Lakers stink."

Charles is only proving JJ’s point. These so called tv “experts” have created a narrative for headlines and clicks. They don’t even watch the games and it’s evident by their takes on specific games and teams. Just like this whole thing with JJ and Charles, people only care about the headline Charles created rather than the facts of JJ’s statement.

It’s not a narrative it’s a fact lol the game I love is boring right now. Got like 8-9 straight possessions of an attempted 3 by both teams and I quite frankly don’t care for that style of basketball. So I haven’t been watching as much as I used to. Who’s to blame? Charles for calling it what it is? Lololol

Stopped watching his crappy show years ago. Dude thinks he's hilarious, not realizing his only schtick is being a total buffoon. Everyone's laughing at him not with him.

Yo, who else read this in Charles Barkley's voice though? hahaha
I agree with Chuck. There's a lot of mediocre basketball being played, teams averaging 50+ 3 point attempts per game. A lot of sloppy isolations that dribble into a double team, fade away, and come up with nothing. Then the other team runs with that miss, has numbers on offense, and missed the transition 3. It's hard to watch sometimes.
The game is also super simple, which I think draws in young viewers. There's aren't complex plays or defenses to read and understand like in the NFL. The only 2 plays you really see in today's NBA are isolations and pick and roll/pop. The complexity of the game from other eras like in the 90's with Phil Jackson's shifting triangle is lost today. I think people who grew up watching 80's and 90's basketball, and even some of the 2000's NBA do find a void in today's game.

His crappy show has a ton of Emmy's and his crappy show ratings have increased while the NBA ratings are down. He's telling the truth, who wants to watch all them damn 3's. I use to watch every night but now it's a waste of time, bad 3 after bad 3..

I’m not a huge Chuck fan but tbh “his show” has better ratings vs the nba and is easier to watch lol. He’s speaking facts. The games are boring to watch. Poor possessions every play, chucking 3z, Injured players and stars every 5 minutes, players have to much say in where they are del the list goes on.

How is he proving his point? The product is bad, and SOME of the tv experts are calling it as it is. IF you look back in time, during the late '80s and up to mid-00s the NBA ratings were through the roof; now if the NBA gets somewhere close to 5 million viewers is some "improvement."

If you could rub two brain cells together you would know that obviously there are more things to watch plus access to the nba isn't as good due to some limitations the game itself is wayyyy better than the 80s and 90s though I had some older friend tell me he doesn't watch anymore because the players are just so good it's unrealistic to him.. Are there changes they could make to make it better for sure but Charles doesn't even attack those things he just says absolute bs about how 90s players were better newsflash they weren't lol..

For me, the way that the refs call games is bizarre. If they could instill rules before 2004-2005 and call all travels it would be fixed overnight and I’d be glued to my tv.

This is one of the big reasons why the game is trash now. Certain players the league wants to promote can take extra steps, carry, execute moving screens, and get away with offensive fouls to create space.
Said players then abuse the rules in their favor which makes it that much worse. 80's/90's/early 2000's was all about battles in the trenches. You saw true skill and grit. You saw players/teams needing to adapt. 7 game playoff series was like a mini war. Players earned their stripes back then. Today you have manufactured stars.

Also the biggest issue to me. Watching players run into a defender and get the foul is awful to watch. They fixed people pump faking and jumping into defenders but they need a wide spread rule that if the offensive player creates the contact its not a foul.
For 3s its those back to back possessions where players are hucking seconds into the shot clock. Okay when your on fire but when two teams trade bricks back and forth just putting up bad 3s its brutal and unfortunately there seems to be a few of those sequences every game.
Work the ball around to create an open 3 and it's enjoyable.

Yeah you can watch the NFL instead
Wow 1 person told you about basketball in the 80's/90's - how fascinating. How about the hundreds if not thousands of people on this board who expressed a different opinion?
The youth of today grew up in the everyone gets a trophy era and only care about messaing conveyed to them in social media. They don't even make their own opinions or understand competition.
