The New York Knicks are shopping backup center Jericho Sims ahead of the February 6 trade deadline. New York is looking for additional depth, especially in their frontcourt.

Sims has recently missed games due to back spasms. He's started three games this season, all when Karl-Anthony Towns was out of the lineup. New York has also moved to rookie center Ariel Hukporti as Towns' backup on a "game-to-game" basis per head coach Tom Thibodeau.

Sims is making only $2.1 million this season, which makes it hard for him to bring back a major upgrade in a trade. In addition, New York is just over $500,000 under the second apron, at which they are hard-capped by virtue of their offseason transactions.

Sims and a first round pick might get something a little bit interesting, but they don't have any first round picks let to trade. I think they have a few extra 2nds.

If they trade Sims, it will likely be without taking any players back. They'd get his entire 2.1 mm off the books, and give them 2.6 mm beneath the hard cap. That will allow them to add 2 minimum wage players on rest of the year deals. TJ Warren is waiting at Westchester. Moses Brown is there as well. But they might prefer a buyout player after the deadline.

They still can move the Washington pick which will either be the 8th pick next year or two 2nds in the low 30s which are typically more valuable than a late first.

My guess is they package him with a 2nd and move him to Washington for draft rights to an overseas guy after the Wizards move JV.
