The Miami Heat have reportedly had trade talks involving Jimmy Butler with a number of teams. However, no trade is close because Miami doesn't like the options they have.

The Heat are facing an awkward situation, with Butler's team-issued suspension soon to expire. Butler has indicated he's ready to return to the team and play. But Miami is seemingly reluctant to go down that path. The Heat suspended Butler because of his lack of effort in games after his trade request, not because of the trade request itself. That's not a situation Miami wants to see repeat if Butler plays in games for them again.

After meeting with Heat president Pat Riley, Butler reissued his trade demand. He also made it clear he would not sign another contract with Miami. Butler also indicated he may use his $52.4 million player option as leverage to force a situation where he opts in to be traded this offseason.

Pat isn't going to get an offer he likes. Jimmy has him by the balls, the league knows it, and Pat isn't going to get a square offer. The best he can hope for is getting 60 cents on the dollar for Jimmy.

Why would they expect a good offer? They don’t even want to extend the contract on an aging star who has led them to two finals in the past 5 years.

And Pat probably said, “Great. We weren’t offering you one.”

Agreed. MIA didn't want to trade Jimmy for two reasons, and they had nothing to do with wanting to keep Jimmy:

1) He's aging, overpaid and expecting a max extension. The return was always going to be weak.

2) MIA really wants their pick (owed to OKC) to convey this season. It is lottery protected this season and unprotected next season. If they lose the play-in they could end up with the 14th pick this season and no pick as a safety net for their post-Jimmy re-tool. It would also push back the 1-14 protected pick they owe CHA in 27, turning it into an unprotected pick in 28. A pretty bleak outcome. This is why MIA wants players that can help this season rather than future assets in the trade.
