Bulls Shopping Patrick Williams Ahead Of Trade Deadline

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sun Jan 19, 2025 3:47 am

The Chicago Bulls have decided to explore the trade market for forward Patrick Williams. The Bulls will shop the fifth-year player head of the February 6 trade deadline.

Part of Chicago GM Arturas Karnisovas' willingness to find a trade for Williams has been the forward's inability to buy into what the coaching staff has asked of him. Bulls coach Billy Donovan recently said that the team needs to get more out of Williams on a nightly basis.

Williams is in the first year of a five-year, $90 million contract that he signed this past offseason. He's paid a flat $18 million per season, with a player option his final season in 2028-29.

This season, Williams has averaged 9.2 points per game. He's shooting a career-worst 37.7% from the field, while averaging a career-low 3.8 rebounds per game.

Remember when he was going to be the new and not injured Kawhi. Now he could be the new Cam Reddish at best.

He's a much more consistent 3 point shooter than Reddish. Many teams would like to have Williams, but at about 1/3 his annual salary.

Too bad that's the going rate today for a talent like his...and if the right teams get him and develops him, he could be a future allstar like Leonard and sga... so laugh now, no crying later.

That’s the going rate for someone like him who wasn’t also playing like crap. Pat’s been a bad version of a 10/4 guy this season. He’s also in his 5th season, Kawhi and SGA were getting MVP votes by that time of their careers, no reason to think PW is still on that kind of trajectory.

You could be very well be right...but he might be a very talented role player. The talent is there. It's going to come down to if a gm believes he knows what's wrong with him and if they believe he can be developed. He's only 24.

His trajectory is borderline 6th man/starter as a tweener. And yes, players like that are fetching about $18m/yr. Even in his draft class, those drafted right after him aren't necessarily "killing it" in this league. I 've always seen his trajectory to be similar/slightly better than someone like Obi Toppin, who was actually draft a few spots after him. Before the Knicks traded Obi for two second rounders, I wanted the Knicks to trade Obi for PW because it seemed as though PW had a more consistent 3PT shot. He's still in the league, which is better than some other #4 overall guys drafted in the last 10 years (see: Dragan Bender, Josh Jackson).
