The Los Angeles Lakers reached out to Rich Paul after the Dallas Mavericks offered Luka Doncic in a trade earlier this week, according to Chris Haynes.

"The Lakers reached out to Rich Paul after the inquiry from the Dallas Mavericks, and the Lakers explained that they are looking from LeBron James' replacement.

"Somebody who can initiate the offense, a dominant scorer out on the perimeter, someone who can take over the reigns," according to Haynes.

James reportedly had no idea that a trade involving Doncic and Anthony Davis was in the works.

Doncic is targeting a February 8 return from a calf strain.

If the Lakers reached out to Rich Paul earlier in the week, why is everyone reporting that LeBron had no idea a trade was in the works?

Paul is LeBron's agent right?

Something isn't adding up here.

More importantly, he’s AD’s agent. Why are they saying AD had no idea a trade was in the works.

My guess is they wanted to keep LBJ and AD happy if the trade fell through, but it's still kinda weird. Maybe Rich doesn't tell AD but LBJ is his childhood friend. At the minimum he tells LeBron.

In either case, deal is done, time to move forward.

AD is his client. The Lakers notified him of the Luka offer and you think he is not immediately notifying his client that he could potentially be traded? His loyalty is with his client not the Lakers, even if the trade fails to materialize you let your client know what’s going on.

Yep All of this intentionally pushed narrative that LeBron had no idea what was going on is complete hogwash.

If it is true that Rich Paul was clued into all of this a few days ago, then there is no version of anything afterwards that doesn't include LeBron also knowing about this.

So either he wants to play with Luka or we're going to be seeing another headline trade by Thursday.

I've never been shy about the fact that I cannot stand the effect that LeBron has on the team and their asset management. So I'm definitely hoping it is the latter option. Time to move on.

AD was supposed to be the future of Lakers but he never took over the role. That was the plan. Lakers don't know how to get rid of LeBron either since they were expecting AD to take over. This is the best plan. Luka will force lebron to retire since we all know he will never take a back seat. That's my best guess
