AD was just unable to be consistent in those series as he had to deal with Jokic on the defensive end while also needing to be effective on the offensive end as well.
Signing Vincent and wasting the MLE was a terrible move when they could have just resigned Schroeder, who was a great spark off the bench for them, and used that MLE to sign a solid center or a 3 and D wing.
They could have went after Trey Young in the off season which may have given them a better chance at signing Klay ss well. The list goes on and on in terms of mistakes.
The Luka trade, similar to the Lakers getting LBJ and AD, fell in to the Lakers lap. Based on reports it was the Mavs who initiated with the Lakers about the trade. While AD was a great fit with LeBron, getting a 25 year Luka for basically AD and 1 frp is a no brainer for the future.
After all of the injuries they had the year following the championship the lakers went into a quiet rebuild. Non committal on signing players to long term contracts, traded away players they had just extended for Westbrook’s soon to be expiring contract, an unwillingness to go all in on trades, etc. They completely mismanaged these last 4 years and I think it has a lot to do with how they were after Kobe retired and before LeBron signed there, they didn’t want a repeat of that situation.
