Kyrie Irving, Mavericks Remain On Course To Sign New Contract

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Mon Feb 3, 2025 1:49 pm

In the wake of the Dallas Mavericks trading Luka Doncic, one question that has come up is how Kyrie Irving feels about losing his star running mate. While Irving hasn't spoken about the deal publicly, he and the Mavericks remain on course to sign a new contract this offseason.

Irving and Dallas have options for a new contract this summer. Irving could opt in to the final year of his deal, and sign a four-year extension worth up to $266.7 million. Irving could opt out and sign a five-year deal worth as much as $313.9 million.

Since trading for Anthony Davis, reports have been that the Mavericks intend to re-up with Irving. The idea is to build the team for the next several seasons around Irving and Davis.

Yeah, Kyrie shouldn't be getting more than 3 total years from me

not wanting to give a 5-year $300M plus contract to Luka's age 27-31 years, but giving it Kyrie's age 34-38 years would be the most hilarious thing ever.

It will be interesting how this plays out. Part of the whole Butler saga is him wanting an extension that will pay him max or near max money late into his 30s. Will Kyrie demand the max number of years from Dallas?

Agreed. Also worth watching for - Does Bron opt out this summer and then sign with Dallas on a discount?

I suspect there's a reasonable chance of that happening assuming he doesn't try to team up with Steph.

He controls a lot through his NTC. However, the Lakers have Bronny under contract for 3 more years which could complicate matters.

Bron has never ever left a dollar on the table. With Bronny on the Lakers, I can't imagine he's about to start doing that now.

No doubt he always has made sure he's being paid.

I think there's a chance that Bron prioritizes what he views as the best chances for another title and his legacy over that money through the last couple of seasons before he retires.

The dynamics with his NTC and Bronny's contract with LA complicates matters. I just find it difficult to believe this supposed public narrative that Bron is fully embracing this opportunity to play with Luka on a team that no longer has the assets to plug all the holes around them.

I'm thinking him to the Warriors is the most likely, esp given how much he enjoyed playing with Steph at the Olympics, and their collective ages. Rumours that KD wouldn't mind going there either lol.

LeBron has left millions on the table multiple times throughout his career, most recently this past summer when he signed an extension with the Lakers.

He left Bronny Salary on the table so the lakers wouldn't be a second apron team with his contract.
