Mark Williams has yet to return to the Charlotte Hornets after the trade sending him to the Los Angeles Lakers was rescinded. Charlotte played three road games since the rescinded trade, and Williams was inactive for all three games.

It's believed that the Hornets are giving Williams time to readjust to being back with the team. In a bit of an odd coincidence, Charlotte's first game after the All-Star break is on Wednesday at the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Lakers had agreed to acquire Williams, in exchange for Dalton Knecht, Cam Reddish, a 2030 first-round pick swap and a 2031 first-round pick. After completing a physical with the young center, the Lakers chose to rescind the trade. It was subsequently reported that Los Angeles found multiple things that they were concerned with enough to rescind the trade.

Because the trade deadline had already passed, the Hornets and Lakers were unable to rework the deal. It's been reported that Charlotte has reached out to the league to see what their options are after Los Angeles rescinded the deal. NBA commissioner Adam Silver said that the Hornets have not filed any form of official complaint with the league.

I wonder if the NBA would allow the Lakers to sign him should he get bought out.

Why would he get bought out? He’s 23 year old they will not want to lose him. They obviously believe he has value look at what they wanted for him via trade

Get bought out? Don't be ridiculous.

He just faced NBA reality, these things can happen. He just needs to be professional, play out the season and ask them to trade him in the off season.

The problem is the team seems to be 2 faced. They apperantly initiated the trade negotiations with the Lakers. The Hornets then wrote this welcome back public pr letter telling the world it was the Lakers who "aggressively persued" only to later hear that it was indeed them who started the negotiations. Meanwhile the Hornets also called the NBA to see if they have any options to push the trade anyway. Plus they have Nurkic as well now.

The last thing being his injury. If the Hornets knew about the additional issues or if the injury was more severe than they let on that's deception at its finest. If their medical staff didn't even know about it then that's also very concerning. In either case it hurts their reputation with players and/or other teams around the league.

Now the signing with the Lakers thing was a joke. I don't know if I was in his situation if I would want to go to the Lakers anyway since they rescinded the trade but requesting to be bought out may not be that crazy based on the situation. I don't know if the Hornets can ever repair their relationship with him.
