Anthony Davis Could Be Shut Down For Remainder Of Season

Anthony Davis could potentially miss the remainder of the 24-25 season with the Dallas Mavericks' chances of competing in the playoffs completely shifting following the season-ending ACL injury to Kyrie Irving. The Mavericks are currently 10th in the Western Conference and are three games in the loss column ahead of the Phoenix Suns for the final play-in spot. Davis suffered an adductor strain in his first game with the Mavericks.

"I think him, his representatives, are going to huddle up," said Shams Charania on The Pat McAfee Show. "They're going to have some hard conversations. It's not out of the realm of possibilities that's the last time. That one game is the last time we see Anthony Davis this season."

Before his injury, Davis was having an All-NBA caliber season with averages of 25.7 points, 12.0 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 2.2 blocks in 34.2 minutes over 42 games.

The “win now” Mavericks might be the most hilarious story of the year

Great job Niko

They can still trade Davis for a haul next year if they want.

Unfortunate news for Davis.

But Karma for Mavericks.

Can they though? Maybe they can get 3 or 4 FRPs but that does not mean they will land a once in a lifetime star player like Luka from any of those. Plus Dallas always had a hard time recruiting bug name free agents to come to their team. Trading away Luka won't put them on anyone's list in the future imo.

Exactly. We'll need to look at this 3-4 years down the road when hindsight fully kicks in. One thing we do know is that DAL wasn't winning anything this year, even before the Luka trade and the Kyrie injury. They might actually get a decent pick this summer.

I also don't remember reading about the "win now" Mavs. It was more like the "not Luka" Mavs. It was a decision (right or wrong) to not build around Luka for the next decade.

The main complaint was that DAL didn't get the extra pick or Reaves... so if the trade AD for 3-4 more picks and a couple more young assets, you still think they lost the trade? Keep in mind the most important part of this.... DAL no longer wanted Luka as the face of their franchise.

Your point about DAL having trouble recruiting FA's is spot on, so they knew that a couple years down the road Luka was going to want out. If he forced a trade to his team of choice the return would be much less than what DAL already got in the deal. They were being proactive about a situation they saw as inevitable in their near future.

They can? With his injury history, they’d be lucky to get a bag of magic beans. If he’s to have any substantial value in trade, he needs to come roaring out of the game next year, and look like the second coming of Superman. With no lost games. Even then, I think he has limited value. Much the same though perhaps nit to the same degree with Kyrie. But to reestablish his trade value will likely take into 2026.

10th in PPG, 7th in REB, 3rd in BLK... Yes, they can.

Plus not just blocks, elite defense that can switch 1-5 with 3pt spacing and lob they ability. He was going to be all NBA this year

The complaint is Dallas never tried to get anything more. Didn't call any other team. What Dallas front office did could downward be considered bad faith malpractice.

I think they got exactly what they wanted. They were afraid that if the world found out AD was available a team like OKC would slide in with a mountain of picks and steal him out from under them. OKC with AD at PF would be just that much nastier! And maybe OKC sees that and trades for him this summer. The Luka trade isn't necessarily over.
