Bill Simmons has signed a new contract with Spotify. Simmons will continue his namesake show covering sports and pop culture and serve as the company’s head of talk strategy for at least two years. Simmons joined Spotify in 2020 when the Swedish audio streaming company purchased The Ringer for approximately $250 million.
The Ringer is considered one of Spotify's more successful acquisitions. Simmons left ESPN in 2015 and founded The Ringer in 2016, which was a continuation of Grantland to a large degree except podcasts became a far bigger focus.
“I’ve been in enough work situations at this point that you just kinda know when you’re in the right spot,” Simmons said in the statement. “I think all of us are motivated to do something pretty special in the talk and video space.”
