Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Jalen Williams, Lu Dort Out Versus Sixers On Wednesday

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed Mar 19, 2025 5:20 am

The Oklahoma City Thunder will rest Shai Gilgeous-Alexander for Wednesday's game against the Philadelphia 76ers.

Jalen Williams and Lu Dort will also miss the game with hip injuries.

Dort missed Sunday's game against the Bucks due to the injury, with Williams out since March 10.

The NBA is investigating the Thunder for sitting their entire starting five in a game against the Blazers on March 7.

They'd better get heavy fines for this ****.

Everybody likes to give the Sixers crap, but the Thunder are the organization that sends players home for half a year because tanking (See: Horford, Al).

Also OKC, the Sixers will still lose the game and keep their pick away from you.

Not likely to happen -- this is a LeaguePass/regional TV game only.

Horford was way back in 2020, when the Player Participation Program was still years away, so no fine system back then (even now standard fine is only $100K)

*Star* players must be available for all nationally televised and In-Season Tournament games, and teams aren't allowed to have any players stop playing *long term* without an injury.

"Star" is defined as anyone selected for an All-NBA Team or an NBA All-Star team in the previous three seasons, so it's just Shai in this case (JWill has an actual injury and was not an all star "until" this year -- program only covers the prior 3 seasons)

There is only 1 example I can recall where a team got fined for sitting non-stars just 1 night.

Brooklyn got the $100K norm when Vaughn benched Dinwiddie, DFS, Cam Johnson, and Clax (but he also benched Bridges, Royce and Cam Thomas after the 1st quarter and admitted it in a presser).

Yes, and Philly wasn't a nationally televised game either

It was only on FDSOK and NBCS-PH, but on not ABC/Disney/ESPN or TNT.

This is an OK sit by the rules of the program
