When Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid was ruled out for the season on February 28, the team said they would work with him on a rehab and treatment plan for his injured left knee. A month later, it seems that a decision is finally close.

Sixers coach Nick Nurse said that Embiid is done, or close to done, meeting with specialists on how to handle his injury.

"I don’t want to speak definitively — I think he’s done seeing all the specialists," Nurse said. "There may be one or — and those kind of turn into more discussions. I kind of just got up to speed on all of it today. But yeah, I think it’s kind of, like, decision time, and there’s so many opinions and weighing all that out and seeing exactly what’s going to happen. I think we’re close to that point of him making a decision on which route he’s going to take. Just not quite there yet."

My bet is on he misses all next season, with a real chance he never plays again.

That's bleak! I bet he's back by Christmas Day... but they won't have a game on Christmas, so New Years Eve.

My understanding is since rest didn't help and he obviously can't suck up the pain... the options left are all long shots with extended recovery times. But we'll see.

Christmas Day is 8 months away, so there is reason for hope.

I wouldn't hold it against any player for deciding they have made enough money and prioritize their post career quality of life. His knees need to carry that frame for another 50 years or so. Anything that puts his knees at permanent risk probably isn't worth it.

While I wouldn't hold that against Embiid, I would have some serious questions for that front office. I think we all questioned the timing and limited protections on that contract.

Yeah, it's probably time to fire Morey.

However, my guess would the owners don't want to eat three years of dead money, and therefore will give him another year to try and get it together.

Embiid would probabably have forced a trade out if PHI wanted to offer him a Zion type contract. I'm actually surprised the CBA allows the type of contract Zion signed - it might be an issue in next CBA.

The only team that has for certain made a move because they don't have confidence in long term health of a player is DAL with Luka and they are getting slammed for it.

It's easy to question Embiid contract now, but back when he was due up, I'm sure 99% + said it's a no brainer to resign him.

What plan?

He obviously has a knee that will not get better. Carrying that weight
