Trae Young Doesn't Want To Leave Hawks

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Tue Apr 22, 2025 1:01 pm

NBA insider Chris Haynes was a recent guest on The Dan Patrick Show. One of the topics was the future of Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young. Haynes reported that Young has no desire to leave the Hawks.

"(Young) said he’s in a good spot," Haynes said. "He said he knew there was going to be speculation once the Hawks went to a younger core. Had the number one pick, he knew there was going to be speculation about his future. He said he bought in, he took the number one pick. Brought him to his hometown in Oklahoma to show him around and spend some time with him right after he was drafted to get him engaged. So, he’s somebody who, again, just told me a week, a week-and-a-half ago, that he’s down with the process. He wants to see this Atlanta Hawks squad turn the corner and he wants to be a pivotal part in that."

Young has two years remaining on his contract. He's on the Hawks books for $45.9 million next season, followed by a $48.9 million player option for 2026-27. Young is eligible for a four-year extension (five if he declines his player option and makes All-NBA), this summer. That would put him in super max territory, with a new deal potentially starting by as much as 35% of the cap.

I've wanted him on the Magic since his draft night.

However, watching him quit in the Play-in against ORL totally changed my mind..

I'm surprised more hasn't been made of his purposeful 2nd technical foul.

It was the equivalent of taking your ball and going home. As an adult being paid millions to play, to me at least, that's a RED FLAG the size of Oklahoma

It has less to do with what he wants. New GM and a bad playoff showing, Trae should be prepping to move.

His body language in those play-in games told a different story, he really looked like he was completely checked out.
