LeBron James is not expected to entertain the possibility of re-signing with the Los Angeles Lakers on a lesser contract should he opt out to become a free agent this offseason, sources tell The Athletic. Last offseason, James became a free agent and was reportedly willing to take less money if the Lakers were able to convince James Harden, DeMar DeRozan, Klay Thompson or Jonas Valanciunas to sign with the team. Because the Lakers didn't sign any of those players, James re-signed at his max.
James is widely expected to remain with the Lakers, but sources close to him and team sources would not rule out the possibility of him finishing his career with another team. Sources say James also has had concerns about the state of the Lakers' roster.
James has a player option for 25-26 worth $52.6 million. James is expected to be named to one of the All-NBA teams this season as he remains one of the NBA's best players at the age of 40.

Makes sense. Why would the most selfish and self centred player suddenly become unselfish

And he shouldn’t sign for anything less than the max!

I can think of a few reasons why he should. Least of all being that he doesn’t produce as much as a 50-60 million dollar player should

dumbest statement in the history of mankind. he’s underpaid. he is the face of the nba. So much that he has a million haters online bashing him everyday from their keyboards with Cheetos seasoning on their fingertips. he really should be getting paid 100 millions minimum but can’t cause of the salary cap

You have Luka… “state of the roster” shouldn’t be hard to fill out the roster… that’s like starting a puzzle that’s already 80% complete

If he was with Cavs or Heat then you could make a case for him bringing in attention and popularity to the city or franchise but not with Lakers. The Lakers are a brand on their own and they already have the biggest star in their roster. James is a liability now for the Lakers.

He has secured generational wealth like 15 years ago. Money should not be relevant for him, IF he cares about winning.
He should of sign for 20 million and enable the Lakers to get a few ring chasers to join them. Make one or maybe two final attempts to win it all.
Or force a trade to Cleveland and ride it out there.
