Chris Finch Challenges Anthony Edwards To Bring Better Energy

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed May 7, 2025 1:00 pm

Minnesota Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch wasn't happy with his team's effort and energy after they lost Game 1 of their second round series at home to the Golden State Warriors. Finch's primary issue with was with Wolves star Anthony Edwards.

"It starts with Ant," Finch said. "I thought he struggled, and then you could just kind of see the light go out a little bit for a while."

Edwards finished with 23 points on 9-of-23 shooting, after missing his first 10 shots of the game. Finch challenged his star player to keep bringing energy when his shot isn't falling.

"What is there to talk about? You're the leader of the team," Finch said. "You've got to come out and set the tone. If your shot is not going, you still have to carry the energy. If I've got to talk to guys about having the right energy coming into an opening second-round game, then we're not on the same page."

From his side, Edwards accepting the criticism, while saying what matters is that Minnesota lost.

"People are going to try to blame whatever, blame whoever; they can blame me," Edwards said. "[But] we just didn't play good enough."

Questioned Ant's effort and energy? Where have I heard that before? Lol

I'm sure he will have a great series, it's just funny that fans were using Steve Kerr's comments years ago as some kind of payback moment motivation.

Can you say more about the context of Steve Kerr's comments? Finch has a lot of guts to blast Edwards in public, but I wonder if that might backfire in terms of their relationship in the years to come.

First, Steve Kerr loves and respects Anthony Edwards, and Anthony Edwards has credited Steve Kerr and the Warriors with helping him to become the player he is today. And of course they had a famous relationship winning the Olympic Gold together in Paris last year.

So maybe I made a little jab (at fans) but I don't mean it as a disrespect to the player Ant has become.

Here is the context in Ant's own words: https://youtu.be/ZZXUgGuzz-g?si=ZmrvRcD0VqqQNhf2
