Spurs Could Explore Trade Options With No. 2 Overall Pick

The San Antonio Spurs moved up from No. 8 in the lottery to collect the No. 2 pick. While it won't net them a potentially generational prospect like Cooper Flagg, the Spurs suddenly have valuable optionality with what they can do with the No. 2 selection. The Spurs could stand pat and select Dylan Harper, or they could put together trade scenarios considering there is positional overlap with him, De'Aaron Fox and Stephon Castle.

San Antonio also has potential interest in trading for Giannis Antetokounmpo with the No. 2 pick giving the Milwaukee Bucks a foundational piece as the consider a post-Giannis future.

"Cooper Flagg can start looking at real estate listings in Dallas," said Brian Windhorst on NBA Today. "He's going to be a Maverick, it seems. The No. 2 pick is where this draft's intrigue [begins]. Whether the Spurs keep it. Whether the Spurs take it and move back in the draft. Maybe take a different player to get assets. Or whether they use it in a big trade.

"I will tell you this: do not forget Giannis will have agency in this. Whether he wants to stay in Milwaukee. Or whether he wants to be traded. He will have a say in where he gets traded."

Spurs you're on the clock to build an incomparable package to land Giannis this summer. You have all of the immediate assets and players to help the Bucks with a really good reset vice rebuild.

Spurs Trade:
Vassell, K. Johnson, Sochan, both 2025 FRPs, 2028 FRP and 2030 FRP (all unprotected).

Bucks Trade:
Giannis Antetokounmpo

If the Bucks don't get at least Castle and the second pick they'd be morons.

Castle, 2, Keldon and Barnes for salary matching. Clean and easy.

Yall are as delusional as we are in Houston.

OKC and Houston probably have the best assets to trade for Giannis. Here's hoping he wants to go to Houston!

Houston doesn't make any sense in terms of fit. There are literally zero shooters on the team, the floor is already super-clogged by Sengun, Thompson, and Green, and your half-court offense is abysmal. If you get Giannis, you will have to rebuild the entire roster to make it work, which is too hard and complex of a task and too much of a risk.

After the lottery, Spurs is a no-brainer with the players they have. Wemby is a stretch-5 and they have decent shooters. Fox is not an amazing fit, but at worst it will be like the current Dame-Giannis pair, but you have Wemby and a better supporting cast. Plus, they can trade Fox if they wanted to - they just got so many different options after they got the N2 pick.

Lol, Harper and another 1st should be closer to the return. No one’s going to beat that really.

Neither of those teams has anything close to a Dylan Harper, if SA wants him they now have easily the best headlining piece.

Demand? It depends on who is in the driver seat.
Giannis can (not saying he WILL) say he wants to go to a team like the Spurs and MIL might be obligated to do so.

The framework definitely has to be #2 + #14 OR Castle with me leaning more towards it being #2+#14+future 1sts. I fully see SAS doing what they can to keep Castle.

A bit bias huh?

What exactly does Houston have over the #2 pick (Dylan Harper)?

The worst thing the Spurs could do is avoid picking Harper because of the backcourt logjam. They need to draft him and then trade either his draft rights or Castle/Vassell for some starting-level forward(s). Barnes is solid but they can do better. I hear there's a guy in Milwaukee looking for a change of scenery that plays forward.
