Tom Thibodeau on Karl-Anthony Towns Sitting Late: We're Searching For A Win

New York Knicks center Karl-Anthony Towns sat for most of the fourth quarter with his team trailing Game 2 against the Indiana Pacers. Towns subbed out with 9:00 to play in the final period and didn't return until there was 2:25 remaining and the Knicks were down by nine points. Postgame, New York coach Tom Thibodeau said he went with a lineup that he felt gave his team the best chance at winning.

"Just, we got in a hole, and then the group that was in there gave us a chance," Thibodeau said. "So we were just riding (that lineup). We’re searching for a win."

When asked about it himself, Towns was more upset about falling behind 0-2 with the series shifting to Indiana.

"It’s tough to lose, anyway," Towns said. "So we just gotta regroup together for the next one."

This is the second game in a row where Towns wasn't on the floor during crucial fourth quarter minutes. In Game 1, Towns sat for a long stretch, and then was part of a offense-defense rotation with Mitchell Robinson late in the game.

It’s just year 1 of KAT / JB / OG / Mikal.

They made the ECF ( huge step forward ) in “year 1”.

Next step - upgrade the bench to compete at the championship level ( not there yet ). They need consistent scoring and depth off the bench.

Current Pacers ( & Celtics ) have a great system, depth and have been together as a unit under a great head coach(es).

Knicks unfortunately do not have the depth / bench or an offensive system ( other than Brunson bailing them out last 5 mins of every game ). On top of that their forwards are all playing out of position - OG not a PF, Mikal more of a 2 guard … Hart is not a SG. And their 2 cornerstones ( JB & KAT ) are horrible defenders.

Despite a flawed roster, stubborn coaching, lack of bench depth, poor offensive system …. They’ve come a long way but much work remains.

I feel like coach has to get KAT confident and run plays for him because that'll open up the court for everybody instead of relying on volume from Brunson

Thibs is the best coach the Knicks have had in decades and yet Knicks are clamoring to get rid of him lol
