In a recent appearance on ESPN Cleveland, ESPN NBA insider Brian Windhorst was asked about the Cleveland Cavaliers being active in trade discussions this offseason. Windhorst said he believes the Cavs have already been active in trade talks.

Windhorst added that Cleveland is listening to offers for point guard Darius Garland and open-minded about trading him. Windhorst stressed that Garland doesn't want to go anywhere and is happy with his role in Cleveland. He added that the Cavaliers are listening, without actively shopping Garland around the league.

A year ago, there was speculation that Cleveland would move Garland if they signed Donovan Mitchell to an extension. After signing Mitchell, Cavs GM Koby Altman was clear that Garland would not be traded. Windhorst said that a year later, Cleveland is now open to the idea of moving Garland, if they believe that would allow them to take the next step as a team.

Are there GM's that literally hang up the phone when a player's name is mentioned to the point they won't even listen to an offer? It's kind of their job to talk and listen and if nothing else redirect the conversation somewhere they want, but always look for offers that improve the team.

These nothing comments somehow turn in to coded garbage that encourages the media and fans in to believing the Cavs are willing to trade Garland for tax relief or a taller player with even worse injury problems all under the assumption that Mitchell is ready to be the Cavs full time PG.

I think the article clearly says they'd trade him for the opportunity to take the next step... Which makes sense. Not just for a taller player or injured player

Absolutely, every GM is listening to every offer, even if they meet that offer with a resounding hell no.

Mitchell is certainly not ready to be a full time PG. He's a great SG, but he clearly gets tunnel vision when the stakes are highest. He doesn't see the floor like a PG. Often times small SG's get labeled as PG's just because they are the smallest starter.

You don't think they are looking for cap relief? They may make a deal that gives them a pick and cap relief if they can...The luxury tax is no joke

Cap relief? Nah, not that they'd mind it if it was part of a deal that otherwise made sense.

Ofc that every gm of every team will listen to every offer, especially since this winter' events.

Because now, you never know when will the league go rogue and force another Luka-like trade out of a team that is not purple and yellow to a team that is.
