Celtics Focused On Holiday, Porzingis, Hauser Trades But Will Listen On Brown, White

The Boston Celtics are exploring the trade market for Jrue Holiday, Kristaps Porzingis, and Sam Hauser as they look to manage salary concerns this offseason, according to a report from Shams Charania. With luxury tax and apron implications looming, the Celtics are prioritizing cost-cutting moves while evaluating their roster that won a championship a year ago but is unlikely to compete for one next year with Jayson Tatum out with his Achilles surgery.

"The other big ticket item I think this offseason is the Celtics and what are they going to do," said Shams Charania on the Pat McAfee Show. "And the primary focus, from my understanding, with the Celtics' offseason has been Jrue Holiday, Kristaps Porzingis, Sam Hauser—their trade markets.

"However, now are teams making big offers and calling about Jaylen Brown and Derrick White? One hundred percent. The Celtics prefer not to trade them, from my understanding, but listen, if they get a big offer, they have to look at everything. And I think they're going to get, you know, offers on the three guys that they're focused on. They're going to get offers potentially on Derek White and Jaylen Brown. And I think between now and the draft and free agency, they're going to evaluate what makes sense from a value perspective."

When asked by McAfee if "everybody but Tatum" could potentially be available, Charania responded, "Essentially."

The Celtics could significantly reset their roster this offseason to optimize their title chances for the 2026-27 season when Tatum is likely to return from his injury.

Or trade Tatum for Giannis and win the title next year.

Cold but maybe get a superstar that puts the rest of your healthy lineup (assuming KP beats COVID finally) to use.

Hmmm. It's highly unlikely but I actually kind of like this idea for both teams. Currently with their injuries neither team can contend next year but a Giannis - Tatum deal helps Boston continue to contend now and jumpstarts a needed Bucks rebuild.

Giannis and Lopez or Portis? for Tatum and Pritchard?

Boston can justify paying heavy taxes and bringing the rest of the gang back for another legit title run next season and beyond, while Milwaukee will get a tank year(do they control their pick next season?)for a lotto pick in a good draft and potentially other compensation(maybe picks or somebody like Pritchard would be great for them) while Tatum and Dame recover. Under this scenario the Bucks are better postioned in 2026-27 and beyond with a younger superstar in Tatum(3-4 years younger than Giannis), a potential lotto pick from a tank year, and more young assets (Pritchard or picks?) overall.

Porzingis can be moved(backcourt scoring to replace Pritchard?) if two bigs come from the Bucks.

The calculus changes of course if Milwaukee doesn't control it's pick.

Just to answer your question, Pelicans own a pick swap with Bucs next year.
