The door on the New York Knicks hiring Jason Kidd as head coach "is not completely closed," according to Ian Begley of SNY.
The news comes after the Mavs denied the Knicks' request to speak to Kidd last week.
Begley adds that the move remains possible as of Monday.
The Knicks are set to meet with Taylor Jenkins and Mike Brown this week.

In what world does the Mavs refusing an interview mean the door is still open? I know that reporters desperately want to push this false narrative for clicks, but the dude was NEVER coming here. Knicks fired Thibs with no plan and now they are looking like complete morons.

Maybe the Knicks can clone Jason Kidd and just put him into a rigorous life simulator and let him play a career of basketball and learn coaching very quickly and then sign that clone?

In theory Jason Kidd could quit.
But assuming they're following the rules that's basically expecting him to quit without a proper offer from the Knicks lined up.
Seems silly.

Even if he were to quit, he’d have a non compete at least till the current offer expired
Just like Thibs might need permission from the Knix to coach another team

It’s almost totally obvious that Kidd must’ve let it be known that he would have aspirations of coaching the New York Knicks if he wasn’t coaching the Mavericks… I’ve heard it through different channels in the NBA that Kidd has expressed his desires to coach the Knicks in the past.. and the Mavs must’ve heard it too… so if the Knicks offered a really good deal for Kidd’s services

It’s not really the Mavs call as much as you think. It’s no different than a player asking for a trade. They almost always get accommodated. If Kidd wants out, they have to let him out. You can’t have an unhappy coach managing two 32 year old superstars and an 19 year old First pick. However no need to match salaries. So in fact the Mavs are the team looking for a coach. That said who knows what is true and not true.
