Kyrie Irving, Mavericks Agree To Three-Year, $119M Deal

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed Jun 25, 2025 1:16 am

Kyrie Irving and the Dallas Mavericks have agreed to a three-year, $119 million deal. Irving is declining his $43 million player option to sign the new contract. Irving's contract was negotiated by Shetellia Riley

Irving is currently rehabilitating a torn ACL suffered in February. Irving turned 33 in March.

The Mavericks acquired Irving from the Dallas Mavericks at the trade deadline in 2023 and reached the Finals in 2024. Irving was an All-Star replacement in 2025 and averaged 24.7 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.6 assists across 50 games.

This should have been and indicator that Nico wasn't cut out to be a GM.

Did they build any protections to the org into the contract should he not return from injury at 100%, or if he goes down 1-year in? Any team options?

Iono man. Luka trade notwithstanding. Nico's done a pretty good job of drafting and bringing in the right vets to build a championship level team. We all know he should've gotten more value for Luka and as a Lakers fan I'm grateful for that blunder. Specifically with Luka heading the call to improve his fitness this Summer. Call me crazy but I think that even before getting incredibly lucky in landing Cooper Flagg that Mavs were looking like a legit contender. At this point all they really need is a quality point guard to get them through the early part of the season and they're all set. I'd put them in the upper echelon of the West and league overall for sure.

Where exactly was Kyrie going next year in a wheelchair?

Awful move at a time when the Mavs have all the leverage. He's not going to play and has $43 million option he has to pick it up. Getting a mid-level exception back is irrelevant for a non contending team.

Just call his bluff. If somebody signs Kyrie for more not to do anything next year then great. I don't see any team doing that.

The year expires and you can see if he's recovered or if he's cooked and be in the drivers seat for an extension at the end of Flagg's rookie year. You may end up playing Flagg at point forward anyway.
