Jeanie Buss is expected to remain in her position as governor of the Los Angeles Lakers for "years" despite Mark Walter purchasing majority control of the franchise at a $10 billion valuation. The sale of the Lakers to Walter is expected to close in either the third or fourth quarter of 2025.

“The Buss family is deeply honored to have looked after this incredible organization for almost half a century,” Buss said in the release, her first comments since the sale. “From the day our father purchased the Lakers, we have been determined to deliver what the City of Los Angeles deserves and demands: a team that is committed to winning – relentlessly – and to doing so with passion and with style.

“I have gotten to know Mark very well over time and been delighted to learn how he shares those same values. For the last four years, Mark has been an excellent partner to us, and we are thrilled to keep working with him to continue the Lakers’ extraordinary legacy.”

Nope. Same lie that Mark Cuban used....the only way I believe this if she's helping the the next owners transition into the role with their staff a little better..aside from that, its hard to believe.

She’s a billionaire. So don’t take anything she says at face value, even if it’s a pretty face.

I mean, who knows how it will actually play out in the end, but supposedly Jeanie Buss remaining team governor is actually written into the sale agreement, whereas Mark Cuban only had a handshake, so there could be legal implications if they try to ditch her. Also Lakers fans generally like her, and see her as carrying on her father's legacy, so considering she wants to stay, why would they even want to get rid of her unless they have some big disagreement with her?
