Jabari Smith Jr. and the Houston Rockets have agreed to a five-year, $125 million contract extension. Smith's future with the Rockets has been uncertain as they have evaluated major trade options and also acquired Kevin Durant. Smith was the third overall pick in the 2022 draft out of Auburn behind Paolo Banchero and Chet Holmgren.

Last season, Smith averaged 12.2 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.0 assists in 30.1 minutes. Smith shot 35.4 percent on three-pointers. Smith was limited to 57 games due to a broken left hand and returned to a bench role following the emergence of Amen Thompson.

Smit is represented by  Wallace Prather.

Good value for both sides but I thought you couldn’t sign for max years if it isn’t a max contract coming off yah rookie deal?

Just cites a rookie extension can be 4 or 5 years. Pretty good for both sides. I'm going he can learn all he can while Durant is here and excels once KD is retired

However, rookies can sign extensions that can add up to four or five additional years to their initial contract, but this typically happens after their third or fourth season. These extensions are often referred to as rookie-scale extensions. (Off Google AI lol)
