Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Thunder Agree To Four-Year, $285M Extension

The Oklahoma City Thunder and MVP guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander have agreed to a four-year, $285 million extension. This deal will start with the 2027-28 season, as Gilgeous-Alexander has two years remaining on his current deal.

Gilgeous-Alexander qualified for the super max extension because he won the MVP award, while leading the Thunder to the 2025 NBA title. He could have waited a year and added a fifth season, but Gilgeous-Alexander takes the security of locking in super max money now.

Kind of surprised he didn't wait for the super max. He could tear his ACL right now and still command it next season

Don't want to be morbid, but SGA could also, gd forbid, be in a car accident and never play again.

When someone offers to pay you over a quarter billion dollars for 4 years of work, it's hard to walk away from that. Sometimes, you don't have to max out every dollar and be THAT money focused lol. This contract sets up his family for generations, nearly double his current salary, and would make him the highest paid player in the NBA next year by about $12m. Also, SGA is 26 years old, he'll have another crack at the supermax again in a higher cap environment at age 31-32. I think he'll be fine lol.

Every time a new super max contract rolls around, a new record is set for highest paid player. It's the way of the league.
