Lakers Still Considering Deandre Ayton, Other Free Agents, Trade Targets

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Tue Jul 1, 2025 6:55 pm

The Los Angeles Lakers entered the offseason prioritizing the center position, but they have yet to make any moves nearly 24 hours since the official start of free agency. The Lakers are considering signing Deandre Ayton, as well as other options in free agency and on the trade market.

The Lakers were linked with Brook Lopez, but he agreed to sign a two-year, $18 million offer with the Los Angeles Clippers. Because the Lakers signed Jake LaRavia to a two-year, $12 million deal, they were unable to financially match the Clippers' offer to Lopez.

Clint Capela, another center target, agreed to sign with the Houston Rockets.

Ayton has also been considering the Milwaukee Bucks, but they instead were able to sign Myles Turner following their decision to waive-and-stretch Damian Lillard.

Lakers already said yes, Ayton has not yet (and Lakers need a center)

Ayton reminds me more of Andrew Bynum than any other player. All the tools and none of the drive or desire. This guy is capable of averaging 20/12, but he probably never will. Still, for the vet min, why not!

Bynum may have had his motivation destroyed by those bad knees. Ayton's motivation has always been the next bag. But I can see the comparison. Two very talented/skilled 7-footers with motivation issues.
