The Miami Heat have acquired Norman Powell from the Los Angeles Clippers in a three-team trade involving the Utah Jazz. The Clippers will acquire John Collins, while the Jazz will receive Kevin Love, Kyle Anderson and a 2027 second round pick from the Clippers.

In terms of pure value, I agree, it's bad for LA. Norman is the better, cheaper player. But John is younger and balances their roster. I don't see how they didn't get their 2nd back in this deal, Utah sheds $10mil in immediate cap savings, more if they buy out Kevin.

However, IF the Clips are in on both Beal and Paul, this makes more sense.

MIA adds $7.1M salary for the year but gets an expiring and saves money from SLO MO’s 2nd year. Clears $9.6M for 26-27
LAC adds $6M salary, expiring for expiring
UTA drops $13M in salary for the year but adds $9.6M salary to 26-27

Surprised Clippers went away from Norm. He was their 2nd best player at times, some games their best player.
Only makes sense if they end up with both Collins AND Beal in a buyout.

The Clippers discovered they need bigs to contend.
Brook and Collins in a summer, plus the renewal of Batum.
Now Kawhi will play SF all the time and they are quite a contender. They keep Zubac, Harden, Batum, Kawhi and the same style for three years and thet is usually a recipe for good results.
