Knicks Officially Hire Mike Brown As Head Coach

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Tue Jul 8, 2025 5:06 am

The New York Knicks hired Mike Brown on Monday, turning to the two-time NBA Coach of the Year after firing Tom Thibodeau.

"After a thorough and extensive search process, we are pleased to announce Mike Brown as the head coach of the New York Knicks," Knicks president Leon Rose said in a statement. "Mike has coached on the biggest stages in our sport and brings championship pedigree to our organization.

"His experience leading the bench during the NBA Finals, winning four titles as an assistant coach, and his ability to grow and develop players will all help us as we aim to bring a championship to New York for our fans."

A complete clown of a coach going to a complete clown of an organization - seems fitting. Watch how the Knicks will be a play-in team.

I'm not a Knicks fan, and I have no particular affinity for Mike Brown, but complete clowns don't win coach of the year twice. So I see no reason to predict failure. Brown isn't as good a defensive coach as Thibs, but he's probably a bit more creative as an offensive coach, and he'll give bench players some more run, which could improve team chemistry, and will help keep the starters from ground into the dust as Thibs used to. Play-in team? If they remain relatively healthy, I don't see 6 other teams in the eastern conference who will be better than them next year.

It's been nice to see the Knicks relevant again after so many years of obscurity. I hope Brown works out and they remain competitive.

Brown certainly has had success and failure, much the same as Thibs. If he can balance the playing time better and introduce something more than isos and "hero ball" on offense, he'll be a hit. Anything less than ECF, NY will eat him.
