Nuggets-Kings Trade Involving Jonas Valanciunas, Dario Saric Made Official; No Updates On Valanciunas

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sun Jul 13, 2025 10:00 pm

The trade between the Denver Nuggets and Sacramento Kings that swapped Jonas Valanciunas and Dario Saric was made official on Sunday.

The deal was initially reported on July 1 before news broke that Valanciunas was getting recruited by Panathinaikos.

Though the trade is now official, there are no updates on Valanciunas' situation with the Nuggets. The team previously stated that they expect the center to honor his NBA contract.

Valanciunas' contract does not allow him to pursue another professional opportunity unless he and the Nuggets agree to a buyout, according to Bobby Marks of ESPN.

Valanciunas averaged 10.4 points and 7.7 rebounds last season and is expected to backup Nikola Jokic.

Just don't know why he doesn't collect his 10 mil, see how it goes and make the move next year. DEN should be a top 3 team in the West after the moves they made.

Because he's gonna get around 6 millions after taxes if he stays in Denver. On the other hand, Panathinaikos (Athens) is offering him 12/3 contract and taxes in Europe are very...easily worked around, to put it mildly.

They don't "work around" the taxes in Europe. They report the "after tax" salary vs. the "before tax" salary reported in the US. But even by your math, he'd be getting 12/3 in EUR vs. 12/2 in the NBA. This has more to do with role than money. Assuming he doesn't share the floor with Jokic, he's looking at a 16 MPG average. Valanciunas would be a dominant force in EuroLeague.

Oh. Yes, they do. Europe is miles behind NBA. Taxes are easy to manipulate here (a.k.a., Jonas wouldn't be paying them).

That is besides the fact his 2nd season in NBA is not gauaranteed.

The taxes get paid in Europe, the contract is just reported differently. There is no tax fraud involved.

The contract in Greece is around the NBA vet min. This isn't about money.
